Planning commission thorough, courteous

At the last meeting of the Montezuma Country Planning and Zoning Commission, it was a pleasure to note the courteous and thorough exploration by the commission of a matter of cultural sensitivity and some complexity. Dennis Atwater and his commission are to be commended for the careful attention they gave to the complaints of Mr. and Mrs. Namingha of Yellow Jacket, regarding the proposed expansion of the Fairview Cemetery across the road from a site contiguous with their property. I am not sure I understand the final resolution the commission made on the issue, but it made me proud to be a citizen of this county, seeing the careful consideration the commission gave to sensitivity of Native Americans to the proposed cemetery expansion. I was also pleased to see that everyone was given a microphone and the time to state their views. This issue will probably go to the county commissioners next, and I hope they are as courteous and sensitive to the issues raised by the Naminghas. It seems obvious that a slight modification of the proposed expansion could meet the needs of all involved. I urge our three county commissioners to seek such a harmonious solution.
