Council made right call on marijuana

Thanks to Cortez City Council for having the wisdom to allow and regulate retail marijuana sales in Cortez. Fiscally, this was the right decision to make, and it will help to keep business of all kinds in our community. The two councilors who opposed the resolution believed that prohibition would protect the young people of Cortez, but exactly the opposite is true. With legal, regulated sales outlets, the black market for recreational marijuana will shrink, so there will be fewer illegal dealers locally to prey on our youth. Throughout the study of this issue, I had an opportunity to watch how the Cortez City Council works, and I was very favorably impressed. Every council member is committed to fully understanding the issues they consider; they do their homework, ask insightful questions, and devote a lot of their time for the benefit of their neighbors. Cortez is indeed fortunate to be served by these diligent and dedicated people. Thanks again to the council for all it does!
