My wife and I were in attendance at the Panthers opening game on Aug. 22 versus Aspen. After having been away from MCHS football for awhile we came away impressed. Coach Coulter and his staff have done their homework The team plays an exciting brand of football and are well-schooled in the fundamentals. As a former coach I appreciate the fact that they get very few penalties. They have several outstanding players and they play with class. One of the Panther linemen pancaked the Aspen safety but then helped him up. Love it. This team deserves a huge local following. It can make a tremendous difference toward their success. We need to get out and support the other programs as well. The cheerleaders and dance team were great. Of course the Marching Panthers continue their tradition of excellence with Rodney Rithaller. On a side note, the PA announcer Ray Harriman is one of the best I have heard anywhere. While I am on the topic of Cortez football a new stadium is not needed. Make the current one a show place and exhibit some community pride. All the pieces are in place. Build a practice facility at the new school. David Schaak is right on in his assessment. See you at the next home game under the Friday night lights!
