Leopard Sharks accepting registrations for fall season

The Cortez Leopard Sharks swim club is accepting registrations for its fall swim season. The season will run Sept. 2 through Dec. 19. To register, visit www.cortezleopardsharks.org or stop by the Cortez Rec Center on Sept. 2 at 5 p.m.

Ute Mountain Rodeo Team hosting rodeo

The Ute Mountain High School rodeo team will host a rodeo at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds, Aug. 30 through Sept. 1. The event will begin at 12 p.m. on Aug. 30 and at 8 a.m. on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Admission is free and concessions will be available at the Fairgrounds.

The Montezuma County 4-H Shooting Sports Archery Range will be open to the public for membership effective Aug. 29.

The cost is $35 per member or $45 for a family membership. The membership will run through the end of the year.

To sign up, you must go to the Montezuma County Extension Office to pay your fee and to sign the paperwork.

Mercy plans to offer free presentation on back pain

Mercy Regional Medical Center invites the community to join fellowship-trained spine surgeons Douglas Orndorff, M.D., Jim Youssef, M.D., and special guest Bill Walton, pro basketball star and Hall of Famer, for a free community presentation on back and leg pain.

Orndorff and. Youssef will explain causes of back and leg pain, and Walton will tell his story of chronic back pain and how he got his life back after minimally invasive surgery. The presentation will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Durango DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino Del Rio.
