County offering free health screenings
The Montezuma County Public Health Department is offering free cholesterol screenings for residents of Montezuma and Dolores counties through their Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions program. Screening consists of a finger-stick blood sample, blood pressure reading, height and weight reading and guidelines for good cardiovascular health.
Results are immediately available. Twelve-hour fasting is suggested.

Eating Smart class planned for parents
The Montezuma Health Department is offering an Eating Smart – Being Active class for anyone with children 0 to 5 years of age who wants to learn to cook kid-friendly recipes on a budget, as well as learn basic nutrition and fun ways to be active with your children. Kelly Proctor, as facilitator will lead the group through eight lessons designed to help them shop, cook and enjoy fun family activities.
The class gives you ideas for a healthier life for you and your family. You will work as a team to create (and devour]) delicious snacks and light meals in the class while developing friendships along with new and useful skills. The activity level is appropriate for any age and almost any condition, as it emphasizes basic stretching and movement, and each person is encouraged to work at a comfortable level.

County offers help for the uninsured

Sheriff’s office to discuss violent predator
The Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office will hold a Community Notification Meeting regarding the release of a recently convicted Sexually Violent Predator into the community. The meeting will be held at the Elks Lodge, 2100 North Dolores Road, Cortez on Aug. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. The identity of the predator will not be released until after the presentation.
Educational information will be presented by a team of professionals involved in the management of sex offenders in our community. The goal of this meeting is to enhance public safety and protection. This will be followed by a question and answer session.
Children are not allowed to attend.
