DENVER (AP) — A man suspected of impersonating the police was taken into custody Monday morning in Colorado.

Colorado State Patrol had received a report of road rage around Highway 36, where a witness said a car was speeding in and out of lanes.

Officers with the Denver Police Department stopped the vehicle. Colorado State Patrol Corporal Ivan Alvarado said the vehicle was fully outfitted with a laptop and lights.

A 39-year-old man was taken into custody, KMGH-TV reported. Alvarado said authorities believe the man was attempting to impersonate a police officer.

Alvarado said the 39-year-old had an Aurora Police Department ID from 2020, but Colorado State Patrol said the man is not a police officer at any department.

The investigation is ongoing. The identity of the man was not disclosed and authorities do not know if he made any stops while potentially posing as an officer.
