Dirt Riot 4x4 Endurance Racing at BattleRock Offroad Park, 5740 County Road G. Gates open at 9 a.m. Full-day action, with food vendors. More than 40 competitors. Tickets: $15/adult; $5 ages 8-16; free for ages 7 and under.

School Supply Drive, 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at First and Elm streets in Cortez. Needed supplies include dry erase markers, copy paper, notebook paper, 1-inch binders, construction paper, No. 2 pencils, erasers, spiral notebooks, composition books, glue, pocket folders Scotch tape and Kleenex. Southwest Colorado Livestock Association Summer BBQ and Dance, Saturday, Aug. 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Lewis-Arriola Community Center. Dance to Vanishing Breed starting at 8 p.m. The cost for the barbecue and dance is $10 a person, children under 17 get in for free. The event is open to the public. The Durango Nature Center plans a workshop on animal signs from 10:30 am to 12:30 p.m., with instructor John Duwe. Free free entry to the Nature Center from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Cost is $10 for nonmembers, free for members. Stay after for a picnic and to explore the Nature Center.

All Terrain Hero Race.Run.Walk at BattleRock Offroad Park, 5740 County Road G, Registration online at www.allterrainhero.com or 6:30-7:10 a.m. day of the race. First flight for timed racers at 7:15 a.m. All funds from the All Terrain Hero raise money for The Gwendolyn Strong Foundation. The run is 4.5 miles on rough terrain, with altitude changes. “What is God?” will be the topic on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 6:30 for the “How You Can Be Part of a Christian Community with Integrity and Not Believe All Those Things You Thought You Had to Believe” conversation held at St. Barnabas Church (corner of North and Elm). Call 565-7865.

The 6th Annual Medicine Horse ‘Masters’ Golf tournament registration is 8 a.m. with a Scramble Format/Shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. at the South Forty (Par 3) Course, 25500 Road H, Cortez. Poultry Slaughter Class from 8 to 11 a.m. Learn how to humanly slaughter and process broiler chickens. Class size is limited, preregistration by Aug. 21 is required. The cost ranges from $15 to $30. Proceeds will go to Montezuma County 4-H Poultry member activities. Call 970-560-0781 to register.

The Country Girls Reunion will be at the Lewis-Arriola Community Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a potluck at noon. All families and friends of The Country Girls are welcome. The group started in the mid 1950s. Information: 247-0299.

Biennial Dolores Mountain Quilters Quilt Show Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dolores Community Center. The show will feature over 100 quilts. Admission costs $3 for those 16 years and older and is free for children. Info.: 560-4426.

Sunday, Aug. 24

The Bridge Emergency Shelter is holding its 2nd Annual Homeless Awareness Walk. Registration 4:30 to 5 p.m. at the Playground Shelter at Parque de Vida. This one-mile walk is open to all. The Montezuma VFW will be hosting it’s Annual End of Harvest Dinner for Veterans and their families Saturday at our Post home in Mancos, Sept.13, starting at 5 p.m. This event is open to all Veterans.
