M-CHS fall sports set to begin

Practices for Montezuma-Cortez High School’s fall sports teams will begin on Aug. 11. To participate in a fall sport, students must submit a physical dated after June 1, 2014 and pay an activity fee of $55 ($65 for football). Students may submit their physical and pay their activity fee at the M-CHS activities, which will open at 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 11.

Hunter Education class to be offered in mancos

A Hunter Education Class will be offered at the Mancos Community Center, Aug. 16-17 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Hunter Education is required for anyone born after Jan. 1, 1949, who wishes to hunt or fish in Colorado.

The class is open to individuals 10 and older and the cost is $10 per person.

FLC administrator named to NCAA II panel

A Fort Lewis College administrator has a chance to shape the landscape of the 2015 NCAA Division II women’s basketball tournament.

FLC Associate Director of Athletics Lynne Andrew was selected as the chair of the 2014-2015 NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Committee.

The committee, divided into eight geographical regions, selects the field for the 64-team national tournament.

Andrew has served as the South Central Region chair and was nominated and selected by the other regional chairs as the committee chair. She will oversee three regional rankings and the Division II national selection.

Andrew also will work as the site representative for the elite-eight tournament and will make visits to the national championship site in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, in addition to overseeing all regional rankings, regional and national bid materials.
