Mancos Town Gallery issues call for artists

Art Takes Flight, an open exhibit at the Mancos Town Gallery, is looking for artists to participate. All media will be accepted on Aug. 29-30 with the show being hung on Aug. 31. The show will open on Sept. 1 with a reception for the artists on Sept. 5 from 5-7 p.m.

Heritage center closes for maintenance day

The Anasazi Heritage Center will be closed to the public on Aug. 10 for maintenance of its water system.

Canyons of the Ancients National Monument will remain open for visitation and the center will reopen to the public on Aug. 11 at 9 a.m.

Previously scheduled public programs and special exhibits will resume.

“We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this closure,” said Marietta Eaton, Anasazi Heritage Center manager.

Visitors may get general information about the monument seven days a week at the Colorado Welcome Center, 928 E. Main St. in Cortez. Information is also available at the Dolores Public Lands Office located at 29211 Highway 184, in Dolores.

Donations for Dolores teachers sought

The Dolores Chamber is seeking donations to add to welcome gift bags for incoming teachers.

“We’re reaching out to area businesses to donate coupons or promotional items to encourage new staff to come and visit your businesses,” said chamber manager Rocky Moss.

The bags will be handed out to 30 teachers and staff at orientation on August 11.
