Members of four area churches paraded up Durango’s Main Avenue on Saturday morning as part of Resurrection Fest, a three-day Easter celebration.

Members of several area churches came together over the weekend in downtown Durango for a parade and lunch as part of Resurrection Fest, a three-day celebration of Easter.

The festival was attended by members of Gospel Church Durango, Gospel Church Bayfield, First Baptist Church Bayfield and Durango’s Victory Church, said Tom Thiessen, a pastor of Gospel Church Durango.

“We’re just trying to make Jesus famous in Durango,” he said. “He’s risen from the dead, he’s died for our sins, and we think that everybody should know, everybody should celebrate. It’s just the best news, and so we want to make a big deal of it.”

The festival began with worship services Friday night, as well as several groups of musicians playing songs on street corners. On Saturday, the group paraded up Main Avenue at 11 a.m., with a picnic lunch at noon at Buckley Park; a pickup softball game at Folsom Park; and games and art at Gospel Church Durango, 639 East Second Ave.

That evening, Gospel Church held a feast, followed by a concert and dance.

The church held a potluck brunch Sunday morning, followed by worship, and brought a choir at 12:30 p.m. to the corner of Main Avenue and Seventh Street.
