The Dolores Elementary School is mixing things up a bit this year with an open house before school starts. The open house will be Aug. 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Students are asked to bring in their school supplies that night. Students will also get the chance to find out who their teacher will be for the upcoming school year and visit with them a bit. This night will go a long way, I hope, in calming the pre-first-day-of-school jitters and will lighten the load on the first day back. Most of the time, there just isn't enough room in my kids' backpacks for all those supplies. The PTA will have a booth as will the School to Farm program and the Healthy Kids Parent group.

Registration is right around the corner

Registration is nearly here. Dolores parents, don't forget that registration will be Aug. 6 and 7 at the Dolores Schools this year from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is an important part of the school year and every student is required to attend. It enables the district to update all their records and get a good attendance count before the school year starts, Aug. 18.

New date for athletes' physicals

There has been a schedule change for free sports physicals this year. Dr. Burnside will provide free sports physicals for Dolores Middle School and High School athletes on the evenings of Aug. 13 and 14 starting at 6 p.m. at the Dolores Secondary Schools. These were previously scheduled on the evenings of registration (Aug. 6 and 7).

Football team goes to Denver as reward for hard work

The Dolores High School Football team was in Denver this week, part of a reward trip for attending summer practice and workouts. Football players were treated to Bronco's training camp action and tour of the Bronco's stadium. It looked as if the players, along with coach Chris Trusler, had a lot of fun.
