FARMINGTON – San Juan College is one of just over 230 campuses designated as a “voter friendly campus” by the Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project and the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators: Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education.
The national nonpartisan organizations hold participating institutions accountable for “planning and implementing practices that encourage their students to register and vote in 2020 elections and in the coming years.”
SJC spokeswoman Lucy Haber said in a news release the mission of the designation is to help students overcome barriers that might prevent them from voting or participating in political processes.
SJC was evaluated based on a campus plan to help educate students about the voting process, help them register to vote, and the overall student voter turnout in 2020. The designation is active until December 2022.
“At San Juan College, we are committed to preparing students to be active participants in our democracy,” said Amanda Robles, director of student engagement and campus life. “As a designated voter friendly campus, we are excited to continue engaging students through 2021, 2022 and beyond.”
