The Dolores River has been very popular in Dolores this week. The swimming temperatures have been perfect as the mercury has been rising and leading many Dolores residents and visitors alike into the river's cool waters. The Beach, on the opposite side of Joe Rowell Park, has been the busiest place. This is definitely the time of year to grab your swimsuit, or a nice chair and just sit in the shade by the river with a good book. It really doesn't get any better.

Beautiful Loser Society rocks Hollywood

I am told that everyone had a great time at the Hollywood Bar last weekend when the Beautiful Loser Society played. Bar owner Travis Giddings reported a great night, and I was sorry I missed the band. It's impossible not to have a great time when listening to this local favorite play. The Vanishing Breed will play at the Hollywood Bar and Grill Saturday at 9 p.m., and don't forget that every Wednesday and Friday is Karaoke Night. Also, Wednesday is Ladies Night with half-price drinks.

Furniture and Gifts changes its colors

Speaking of paint, bold paint colors were going up at the Dolores Furniture and Gifts building. Colors going up this week were orange, blue and amber.

"We decided to liven things up a bit here," said Pat Young.

Young, who owns Dolores Furniture and Gifts and Dolores Laundry, said she hopes the bold colors will get the building noticed. The building also houses Bear Paw Realty, which recently opened and is run by Jenny Dambert. Radio station KKDC 93.3 FM is also housed in the building.

"We've been here seven years and people walk in and still are surprised it's not all a laundromat," she said.

She hopes the bright colors will change that.

The Smiths held a birthday party last week for their house, which is 100 years old this year. They celebrated with a little party and some nice improvements in the backyard.
