Estes Park or Granby?

Denver or Ouray?

Vail or Cortez?

Just which is the state’s “best adventure town”?

Elevation Outdoors wants to know. The online version of the Boulder-based magazine is running the contest through Aug. 1. Results will be revealed in the September issue.

The rules are a little sketchy, but basically you can go to www.elevationoutdoors.com/colorado-adventure-towns and start voting. A Journal reporter started voting at random, waiting for Cortez to appear in one of the head-to-head matchups. It took fewer than 10 seven matchups for Cortez to pop up vs. Vail. Hmmm, tough choice.

“We pit 45 of the best towns head-to-head at random and ask you to choose between them until we have a winner,” Elevation Outdoors explains on its website.

Among the 45 towns in the running are Durango, Pagosa Springs, South Fork, Silverton, Ouray, Ridgway and Telluride.

Cortez, according to Elevation Outdoors, has “San Juans on one side, Colorado Plateau desert on the other; Mesa Verde National Park; home of Osprey Packs.”

Vail boasts of “Back Bowls; whitewater and fly fishing right in town; GoPro Mountain Games.”
