Officer Casey Eubanks suffered a small wound to his left side on Feb. 14 after responding to a disturbance on North Texas Street.
Shane French was charged with four counts of felony assault, five counts of resisting arrest and two counts for a crime of violence.
According to court records, French was initially charged with attempted murder. He remains at the Montezuma County jail without bond. An arraignment last week was continued until 10 a.m. on July 8.
After a struggle with the suspect, police confiscated a 6-inch serrated knife and a 3.25-inch paring knife, according to court records.
District Attorney Will Furse said he offered a plea deal including a 12-year sentence.
Coal miner sentenced in shooting incident
A 26-year-old coal miner from Cortez was sentenced last week to 14 days in jail in connection to a December shooting incident.
Adrian Swank was initially arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal trespass and conspiracy to commit menacing after a shooting at a South Maple Street residence on Dec. 15, 2013. Two co-defendants were also charged.
According to court records, the victim was being held at gunpoint when Swank attempted to wrestle the handgun away from a co-defendant, and a round was reportedly fired over a pair of stolen sunglasses.
Swank was sentenced to two years of probation, fined more than $1,600, ordered to undergo random drug and alcohol testing and barred from contact with the co-defendants.
Mom pleads not guilty of harboring fugitive
A Mancos mother of a 3-year-old pleaded not guilty last week on charges connected to harboring an unregistered sex offender.
Caitlin Trevino, age unknown, was arrested on Feb. 20, and charged with accessory to a crime, hindering the apprehension of a suspect for failure to register as a sex offender, providing a false report and child abuse. She’s free on a $1,500 bond. A jury trial was set for Nov. 17.
According to court records, Trevino told agents with the Colorado Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force that Cameron Wilson, 24, was not inside her Country West Motel apartment. Wilson, who had two warrants, was found hiding in the attic.
Man sentenced in theft, forgery cases
A 22-year-old man from Lake Havasu was sentenced to 12 months of drug treatment after stealing and forging checks from his grandmother.
Trevor Stroup was initially charged with five counts of forgery, five counts for possession of a forged instrument and theft. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft.
In addition to drug treatment, Stroup was also ordered to pay $230 in restitution to the Dolores State Bank. A 90-day jail sentence was suspended.
Woman faces trial on meth charges
After pleading not guilty last week, a jury trial for Melanie Brassill, 40, of Mancos, was set for Oct. 20.
Free on a $10,000 bond, Brassill is charged with possession with intent to manufacture or distribute a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance stemming from a traffic stop on March 31. Brassill allegedly possessed 3.6 grams of meth. A co-defendant faces drug charges.
Warrant issued in probation violation
A bench warrant was issued for an Oregon man who failed to appear in court last week for probation violation.
John Erickson, 51, was convicted of trespassing and third-degree assault in May 2012, in connection to 2011 New Year’s Eve domestic violence incident in Mancos. The victim, an ex-girlfriend of the defendant’s, suffered a black eye.
The probation violations include $650 in outstanding fines and failure to complete domestic violence treatment.
