Utah authorities have launched a child-exploitation probe connected to a former Cortez teacher.

The Desert News in Salt Lake City reported this week that Edward A. Greene, 54, of Spanish Fork, Utah, was booked into the Utah County Jail last week for investigation of 10 counts of exploitation of a minor. Greene has been a fifth-grade teacher at Westfield Elementary in Alpine, Utah, for six years. Prior to that, he taught in Cortez.

According to his personal LinkedIn social media site, Greene taught in the Montezuma-Cortez school district for nearly 18 years, starting in 1989. Listed under his background experience on the site, Greene taught third-, fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders here, and worked in the Cortez Middle School for 11 years.

The Alpine District has placed Greene on leave, but school officials in Utah said there was no evidence to suggest any of his students were victimized.

As of Tuesday, no criminal charges had been filed.
