Once again, Rico is planning a great Fourth of July event that is always picturesque and fun. This year, the celebration is titled "A Fun and Safe Old Fashioned Fourth of July" and is put on jointly by the town of Rico and the Rico Fire Protection District. Don't miss the old-fashioned parade, which will start July 4 at 11 a.m.To be in the parade, meet at the Rico Community Church at 10:30. a.m. (call 967-3508). The parade will be followed by music provided by the Four Corners Band at 11:30 and the Fire Department's duck race down the Dolores River at 3 p.m. It is not too late to purchase a duck from a fire department member or log on to www.ricofire.org.

Get your taco here

Do not miss the Navajo Taco sale in front of the fire department after the parade. Linda Yellowman said she will make these scrumptious tacos this year, possibly for the last time. She said she has been making the popular tacos for over 10 years and needs a break.

"This might be the last time," she said.

So make sure you take part in this yummy annual tradition.

And not to miss is the beautiful fireworks display, which is expected to start July 4 at dark, if conditions permit.

The party's just getting started

After July 4, Rico has much more to offer over the weekend.

On July 5 at 10 a.m. sharp is the much celebrated Rico Women's Club bake sale. I hear you have to get their early because the homemade goodies go fast.

Over the entire weekend, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is the Women's Club Craft sale. There is a play this year at the Rico Community Church on July 5 at 7 p.m. titled "Life of Betty Pellet." This lady was a very interesting woman.

And last, but not least, the Old Timers Reunion and Picnic will be at noon on July 6.
