The usual summer epidemic of auto accidents struck the Dolores vicinity Saturday with the result that several people were injured and four autos sent to garages for repairs.

A drought relief cattle purchasing program was explained. The program conducted as an emergency measure to help stockmen in counties designated as drought counties. The object of this cattle buying program is to buy cattle in the drought area where the feed supply is exhausted and to buy them at a price higher than could be secured if sent to market. The mortgage holder must sign a clause in the contract releasing the cattle but part of this payment will go to the mortgage holder and be applied as payment on the mortgage. These cattle become the property of the government.

Condemned animal flat rates are $12 for a cow 2 years old and over, $10 for a cow 1 year old and $4 for a cow under 1 year old. Edible animal prices range from $5 to $20 depending on age.

Reports reached Dolores Tuesday evening of a tremendously rich gold strike on the West Mancos. Later developments were that nothing more than a rich piece of float had been found. The stories regarding the strike were that a big vein of extremely high grade ore had been discovered by the Allee brothers and Walter Odenbaugh. It was definitely stated that the strike was even greater than the Red Arrow.

Supervisor A. F. Hoffman, of the Montezuma National Forest, dropped in at this office Tuesday and asked this paper to state that the use of fireworks on any part of the national forest is positively forbidden. There has been a rule against this practice in previous years, but it has not been enforced here owing to the fact that there is usually not much fire hazard around the 4th of July. But this year, Mr. Hoffman says, there is danger of fire, and so the ban against pyrotechnics.
