A Shiprock man has been charged in federal court in connection with a drive-by shooting on the Navajo reservation.

An enrolled member of the Navajo Nation was charged in federal court Thursday with assault with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm on the reservation.

Quincee Zohnnie, 24, of Shiprock, New Mexico, was ordered to be in custody pending trial.

A news release issued by the U.S. Department of Justice in the District of New Mexico said, “Zohnnie allegedly drove by and fired gunshots into an occupied house, intending to cause harm to John Doe.”

The release went on to say a child was in the home at the time of the shooting, though it was not disclosed if the child was injured. The shooting happened on the Navajo Nation.

Zohnnie faces two charges – one count for assault with a dangerous weapon and one count for discharging a firearm – and faces up to 10 years to life in prison if convicted.

The FBI conducted an investigation of the case along with the Navajo Nation Department of Criminal Investigation.
