Art Beat: As solstice approaches, the air fills with sound of summer

Summer solstice is around the corner and as the sun bends each evening behind the mesas, there's much to inspire the artist and reveler within us all.

Lately, I'm especially drawn to the sparkle of dusk on water, framed by reeds and backlit grass. Water is my constant muse. The Dolores and Animas rivers roar down from the mountains in chocolate milk torrents. North of Telluride, I gasp at an occasional veil of white lace falling from granite heights. Irrigation percolates the marshy meadows of the Mancos Valley as redwing blackbirds squelch and meadowlarks pollinate the air with summer's song. There's much to be grateful for here in our little bowl of beauty and an endless list of artful and musical events to enjoy.
