Most city of Durango facilities will be closed to the public Wednesday in response to concerns about potential violence surrounding the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.
City Hall, River City Hall, the Durango Police Department station and the Recycling Center will be closed to the public.
Durango-La Plata County Airport and recreational facilities, including the Durango Community Recreation Center, Chapman Hill and Durango Gymnastics, will remain open.
The Durango Public Library will have regular curbside hours. Durango Transit will operate, but the Transit Center will be closed.
Concerns about potential violence next week amplified after the FBI issued a warning that armed protests could be planned in each of the nation’s 50 capitols starting as early as Saturday and remaining throughout the week.
The city of Durango said in a statement that as of Friday, the city had received no credible threats.
La Plata County will also close its offices to the public Wednesday. The La Plata County Courthouse will remain open with enhanced security measures.
Both city of Durango and La Plata County offices will be closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
