Library features Play-Ground Theatre
Play-Ground Theatre is the first performance for the Cortez Public Library’s 2014 Summer Reading Program’s Family Entertainment series.
This show has been described as “Monte Python meets Mr. Rogers.” Fairy Tale Theatre includes classic tales fractured for hilarious interactive family fun. Three Billy Goats Gruff, Rapunsel, and Rappin’ Red Riding Hood will join the fun.
The performance takes place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11. The program is sponsored by Golden Dreams from Onward, a Legacy Foundation. There is no cost to you.

Playground Days looking for volunteers
SJMA is working with Cortez Parks and Recreation and Trout Unlimited, Dolores River Anglers chapter, to bring educational programs to children, ages 5-10 attending the Playground Days summer day camp. We’ll be teaching kids about everything from water, to water conservation, water bugs, fish anatomy, and culminating in a fishing day on the Dolores River.
These programs take place for 1 hour (10:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m.) on Wednesdays, June 18 – July 16, with a longer commitment on July 23, and we need volunteers to make this a success.

Kenneth Rennick earns master’s from Mines
Kenneth Rennick, a 2008 graduate of MCHS and son of Tom and Georgena Rennick, of Cortez, recently graduated with a master’s degree in engineering and technology management from Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo.
His studies focused on understanding how to integrate multiple disciplines with an emphasis on the relationship between the disciplines of petroleum engineering, geology, geophysics and economics.
The pinnacle of this study was his management of an undergraduate petroleum senior design class for two years that consisted of more than 180 students and assistants from multiple disciplines.
Kenny plans to work for Crystal River Oil and Gas LLC as a petroleum engineer located in Basalt, Colo., starting this summer. The position consists of managing the operations of multiple wells, including wells in the Four Comers region. He also hopes to stay involved with Colorado School of Mines as an adjunct faculty member and/or earn another master’s degree in petroleum engineering or geophysics.
Home & Garden raffle winners announced
The winner of the Raffle for the Four Corners Home and Garden Show were Dawn Utrup of the iPad mini and Vicki Martinez the 32-inch television.

Dolores Farmers Market moving to park
The Dolores Farmers Market has moved from Flanders Park to the first parking lot at Joe Rowell Park.
The market is every Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. It is free for all vendors.
The move was made to better accommodate vendors and the public, organizers said.
Joe Rowell park has more room, public bathrooms, more parking, and a playground for the kids.
