The Hospice of Montezuma has selected Mary Ramsay for its annual Janet McCabe Outstanding Volunteer Award.

Volunteers provide companionship to patients and respite for caregivers.

“Mary has been a Hospice volunteer since March of 2014 and has proven to be a very dependable and willing volunteer,” according to Ronda Lancaster, volunteer and fundraising coordinator at the Hospice. Ramsay has been a volunteer since March, and though she has a full-time job, she spent her Saturdays and after hours with patients.

“Hospice volunteers are the cream of the crop, and Mary certainly fits into that description,” Lancaster said. “Mary is always willing to meet a patient, spending time doing whatever the patient would like to do, and allowing families to run errands or spend time doing what the family needs to do.”

Hospice of Montezuma offers individualized training to fit the schedule of volunteers. After the required 20-hour course, one hour a week can make a difference to a Hospice patient and their family.
