Grand Summer Nights are back in Mancos. I know, it’s only spring, and when you read this, you may have to brush away a snowflake or two, but we just couldn’t wait.
A brand new store – FAD – is opening Saturday, April 30 on Grand Avenue next to the Artisans. Look for the bright neon sign. Remember that I asked you to guess the letters? No one did, so no surprises. It’s simple: “Furniture, Art, Design.”
“This gallery will be a place where things happen,” said the new and excited owner, Collette Webster.
And happen they will – FAD has 10 artists, some on consignment, some cooperative, some local. They will do bronze artistry, painting and printmaking, and there will be three demonstrations – metal, clay and glass fiber. Some months, there will be visiting artists. In July, a local instrument-maker of xylophones, free notes and steel guitars will be featured, and every month there will be a fun window display.
The grand opening of FAD will be from 6-9 p.m., Saturday, April 30. Enjoy drinks and snacks while listening to our very own Mancos band, Sweetwater Station.
Heritage Hometown displays collectiblesCross the street past the Goodnight Galleries and go next door on Main Street, to another new business: Heritage Hometown Collectibles – antiques, western metal art, jewelry and new and used decor. Meet Nancy, with the biggest smile, and she’ll show you around. The front room may seem small, but there is lots more, including furniture, in the back rooms. You may not leave empty-handed.
During the week, Heritage is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and on Grand Summer Nights.
Avatar, Art and MomentumOutside again, look around for Art, Avatar and the buggy, Mancos’ public transportation, courtesy of the Mancos Chamber of Commerce. Art will take you across U.S. Highway 160, to another new business, next to the P&D Grocery, Momentum 24/7 gym. This is one of three in a chain in Bayfield, Pagosa Springs, and now Mancos. Momentum will be open and accessible 24 hours a day so you hard-working folks can choose any convenient time to remain fit.
I asked Kira how she started. It seems that she has always been a fitness guru. She and her husband graduated from Bayfield, she did a stint in the Marines, and then started managing fitness clubs, finally becoming an owner. Our gym on Grand will merge with Kira, but will remain open for yoga exercises. Everyone who signs up in May gets a free personal training session, a nice gift. After signing up, Art and Avatar will bring you back to town to enjoy the music, art on the street and lots of fun.
