Those who cannot do their jobs should go

This letter is pointed at Edith Brewer (Letters, Journal, March 28). She wants us to take merit in her opinion as to whom would be better at the position of sheriff when she has “never felt the need to be involved in the county elections”? For 30 years or more, she didn’t vote in the county elections? Now she has an opinion? Also, I disagree with the statement that employees need not be fired if they are doing the best they can. This is not the modern school system of pass and fail. It is not a job that everyone wins and gets a trophy for participating. If you can’t do the job articulated in the job description, you need to go. I don’t know how to do open heart surgery but if I give it my best I should keep my job? Please!
