The Dolores Harvest Festival and Car Show will take place Oct. 3 at Joe Rowell Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As the organizer, the Dolores Chamber of Commerce got creative to avoid large crowds during the coronavirus pandemic, said Executive Director Susan Lisak.

The free event will be divided into the three baseball fields, with a maximum capacity of 175 people for each section as required under Colorado COVID-19 regulations. Social distancing between household groups is encouraged, and masks are recommended.

One field will be for vendors and live music, another field will be the car show, and the third field will be the games area. The band is local bluegrass favorite Last Nickel.

A person with a counter will be at each field gate to track how many come and go.

“When a field reaches 175, people will have to wait until someone leaves to get in,” Lisak said. “The ballfields are big, and there will be room to social distance.”

There will be hand-washing stations and hand sanitizer. Free masks will be available. Other precautions include spacing vending booths 6 feet apart and car show entries 12 feet apart.

The agriculture-based event features farm vendors selling veggies, meat and eggs. Fifty vendors have signed up, including arts and craft vendors. Vendor staff count toward the 175 cap.

Game activities include stick horse making, obstacle course, mini-golf, football toss and hay rides. Montezuma School to Farm will host a pumpkin painting event.

The Snaggletooth Saloon will serve ciders made from local apples, along with craft beers from the Dolores River Brewery.

The audience will judge the car show. Categories are best car, best truck, best pain job, best rat rod and Best in Show.
