Schwartz shines for Bears

Teachers, peers and members of the local community rave about Dolores High School senior Brianna Schwartz and rightfully so.

After all, the three-sport varsity athlete, standout student and renowned leader has accumulated quite the list of accomplishments over the course of her high school career.

Recently chosen to participate in the 2A Colorado Coaches of Girls' Sports All-State Basketball Game, Schwartz will travel to Arvada on March 30 to compete in the all-star event.

Below are some of the many qualities and accomplishments that make Schwartz so special.

All-state basketball player

Known for her tenacious defense and never-quit attitude, Schwartz was been nothing less than stellar during her high school basketball career.

Leading her team to several wins during the 2013-14 season, Schwartz made the most of her senior year, averaging 19.7 points per game.

Even with her impressive individual accomplishments, Schwartz elected to discuss the experiences she shared with her team.

"I'll always remember the friendship, the sportsmanship and the laughs on the bus rides," she said.

Varsity volleyball player

Also a standout on the Dolores High School volleyball team, Schwartz brought power and skill to her outside hitter position, helping her team to a 13-8 season record.

Known as a leader on and off the court, Schwartz briefly discussed what has allowed her to serve as an example for teammates.

"I've always just stepped up, led practices and helped other girls out when they needed it," said Schwartz.

Impressive track athlete

A talented runner and hurdler, Schwartz has aided the Dolores High School track team in reaching great heights during the last four years.

A state qualifier in the 300 hurdles as a freshman and a state qualifier in several relay events during the past three years, Schwartz is intent on returning to the state meet as a senior.

Off to a blazing start this season, Schwartz has already recorded several top-10 finishes, including fourth place finishes in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles at the Piedra Vista Invite on March 15.

Well-rounded individual

As impressive as Schwartz's athletic accomplishments have been, her work in the classroom and the community has been nearly as impressive.

A stellar student who has earned a 4.0 GPA during this, her senior year, Schwartz plans to attend Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, where she plans to play basketball and study athletic training.

Aware that her family and the Dolores community played a vital role in her development, Schwartz offered thanks to those around her.

A standout in so many ways, Schwartz will undoubtedly be remembered for her many accomplishments and contributions.

Without a doubt, the soon-to-be graduate appears to have a bright future ahead of her.
