Wildfire breaks out near Placerville

A fire northeast of Placerville has burned 60 acres and caused evacuations.

A wildfire reported Sunday northeast of Placerville triggered evacuations, according to the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office.

The Green Meadows Fire grew to 62 acres by Monday and was fought by 45 personnel from Telluride, Bureau of Land Management, Loghill Village, Norwood and Montrose.

“Some structures are in danger, and ground efforts are underway to contain the fire,” according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office.

The fire, reported after noon Sunday, calmed by 7:45 p.m. Sunday. By Tuesday morning, it was 90% contained, and crews were mopping up hot spots, officials said.

About 14 homes were evacuated through Monday near the Green Meadows Lane area of the Telluride Pines subdivision in Placerville. One home received superficial exterior damage.

The wildfire 15 miles northwest of Telluride was fought from the ground and air, including with helicopters and four federal planes.
