A 37-year-old La Plata County man was found dead Monday south of Durango from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to La Plata County Coroner Jann Smith.

Smith said authorities were called to a remote area off La Posta Road (County Road 213) around 5:30 p.m. Monday to find Tobin Sinclair Jr. dead inside a residence.

Family was at the location at the time of the incident, Smith said, but no one else was injured. She did not immediately have additional information about the incident, but said an autopsy and toxicology will be performed.

Calls to the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office were not immediately returned Tuesday morning.

“I don’t think he had a history of depression,” Smith said. “There was something else going on, family-wise.”

Smith said Sinclair lived in the area “for quite a while.”
