Entering last week on a five-game losing streak, the Dolores High School girls basketball team knew that they had to turn things around fast.

Three solid games later, the team appears primed for a postseason run.

Bears win in Ouray

Matching up against Ouray on Feb. 7, the Bears put together a solid performance, besting the Trojans 47-37 in a key road win.

Key to the Bears win was a third quarter that saw Dolores stretch a 20-16 halftime lead to a 37-25 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Although a late run by Ouray cut the Bears lead to 10, the game was never in doubt as Dolores players celebrated.

Bears best Telluride

Carrying momentum into a Feb. 8 road matchup against Telluride, the Bears won for the second consecutive time, besting the Miners 48-34.

Keying the win were solid games from Brianna Schwartz and Nicole Kibel, who scored 19 points and 15 points, respectively.

Also vital in the Bears victory was the utilization of a full-court press, which forced several Telluride turnovers and led to easy buckets for Dolores.

Bears fall to Dove Creek

Facing a talented Dove Creek team on Feb. 11, the Bears gave the Bulldogs all they could handle before losing 49-34 on the road.

Playing step for step with Dove Creek during a competitive first quarter, the Bears trailed 17-12 entering the second frame.

A strong second quarter put the Bears behind 32-19 entering the half, and never managed to pull closer.

Pacing the Bears was Schwartz, who cored a game-high 21 points.

With their record at 7-9, the Bears will return to practice in preparation for a Feb. 14 road matchup versus Ridgway.
