Antler Creek Tax Service moves to new location
Formally located at 130 Pinon Drive in Cortez, Antler Creek Tax Service has changed locations.
Now located at 1850 E. Main Street next to Big O Tires, Antler Creek will continue offering accounting services to local area businesses.
Owned and managed by Ronnie Herst, a graduate of San Juan Vocational School who brings eight years of accounting experience to his business, Antler Creek strives to provide prompt and affordable services.

Burg Simpson offers scholarship competition
In an effort to reach the next generation about the importance of the jury system as the guardian of American rights and liberties, the law firm of Burg Simpson is offering a scholarship competition based upon written essays.
The competition is open to any graduating Colorado senior enrolled in an accredited school.
To enter, students must write an original essay of 1,500 words or less that describes: (1) how the civil jury system in the United States is being threatened; (2) how the civil jury system protects your rights as a citizen; and (3) the importance of preserving the civil jury system for future generations.
All sources must be properly cited and included in the bibliography. Essays can be submitted two ways: (1) Online at www.burgsimpson.com or (2) Mailed to: Burg Simpson Scholarship Competition, 40 Inverness Drive East, Englewood, Colorado, 80112. If mailed, students must complete and submit an application form with their essay. The form is available online at www.burgsimpson.com. Farm to School bidding process is underway
The 2013-14 Farm to School bid process is underway. If you are interested in growing produce to be used in the area schools now is the time to respond.
Bid packets can be found on the websites of all of the area school districts, Ignacio, Bayfield, Durango, Mancos and Cortez.
Download the packet and return it to Krista Garand of the Durango 9R district by Feb. 18.
Older workers may still need life insurance
Older Americans are working longer or least plan to work longer than ever before.
The reasons, of course, vary. Some need to work, while others want to keep working, and some do so out of want and need. No matter the reason, experts say older workers should re-evaluate whether they have enough life insurance while they are employed and plug any gaps in their risk-management plan.
“If seniors are planning to continue working because they need the income, and not just to stay active, then they should be protecting against the possible loss of that income during this time period,” says Walter Zultowski, a principal of WZ Research + Consulting, a market research and consulting firm specializing in the life insurance and financial services industries based in West Granby, Conn.
