The novel coronavirus didn’t put a damper on Derrick McMullen’s 5th birthday party after his mom, Liz, organized an emergency responder parade of vehicles to come down their street.
Liz McMullen said her son was born with transverse myelitis, a neurological disorder, and was told by doctors he would never walk.
Derrick has 80% recovered, and his mom likes to go over and above for his birthdays.
A number of agencies, including Durango Police Department, the Durango Fire Protection District and La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, participated Monday.
“I always like to give him one day that’s extra special,” Liz McMullen said. “And he loves police, firemen, all emergency service people.”
