Snow – yes, snow – is predicted to hit the high country of Southwest Colorado on Monday night.
The National Weather Service in Grand Junction says precipitation is expected to hit high elevations of the San Juan Mountains this afternoon. Around 7 p.m., that moisture is expected to turn into snow.
The overnight low for Silverton is forecast to be 27 degrees. Only an inch of snow is expected to accumulate. Wind gusts could reach 30 mph.
The incoming storm is expected to bring more moisture to central and northern Colorado. Vail, for instance, could receive up to 3 inches of snowfall.
In Durango, no precipitation is expected, though the overnight low is expected to hit 32 degrees.
Despite the recent moisture, a red-flag warning is in effect for Southwest Colorado until 8 p.m. Monday.
A freeze warning is also in effect from 10 p.m. Monday night to 9 a.m. Tuesday morning for Four Corners, the Upper Dolores River, the Animas River Basing and the San Juan River Basin.
After Monday night, the NWS says no more precipitation is expected for the week.
