The Ute Mountain Casino is currently modernizing its facilities and gaming experiences.

“Ute Mountain Casino is committed to the process of continually upgrading our facility,” said marketing director Timothy McGlynn. “We want to provide a top-quality product for our guests in a clean and comfortable environment.”

The latest gaming upgrades included the addition of nearly 200 new slot machines, pushing the number of gaming devices to more than 750. Each of those 200-plus pound machines will be moved in various phases starting this week to install new carpet on the casino floor. The walls are also expected to get a fresh coat of paint.

At the end of the month, the casino has plans to unveil its Planet Bingo program. The game features larger progressive jackpots, McGlynn said. With new games, 80-inch monitors and individual hand-held electronic gaming devices, Planet Bingo comes on line Jan. 31.

McGlynn said the casino upgrades date to last fall when Kuchu’s Restaurant, a Trip Advisor four-star eatery, received a face-lift. Other improvements planned this spring include installation of a state-of-the-art telephone system.

In September 1992, the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe was the first to open an Indian gaming establishment in Colorado. The casino is near Towaoc, about 10 miles south of Cortez on Highway 160.

The tribal casino is neither subject to taxation nor required to report their revenues to the state.
