I am very concerned about the reopening of Montezuma County. It has to be done right. We don’t want to be like Georgia’s moron governor, who starts out with massage parlors and tattoo shops.
Don’t get me wrong, I want us to get our economy back into the shape it was in before. People can’t go without jobs. People are frustrated staying home. At 71, I am concerned with seeing huge losses in my retirement fund.
But I also don’t want us to have another surge. I am on the front line working health care on the Navajo reservation. It is not over! I am worried about the millennials’ lack of belief in the mitigation efforts. With all of the news on COVID-19, it amazes me to see so many people packing together now without masks. We could start going to work as long as people would respect themselves and their family and friends by wearing a mask and keeping up with social distancing.
I wish we could learn from the 1918 pandemic, when they recognized the benefits of sunlight and fresh air. They built hospitals outside and promoted spending time outdoors. I would like us to open the local/county/state/national parks with mandated controls on masks and social distancing. I would like our lakes opened for boating/fishing. We should open our tennis and pickleball courts with similar controls.
We need to get out on ATVs, bicycles and other fun things to keep us sane.
Hiking can save us.
