An Aztec man who led police on a chase and hit a sheriff’s vehicle in the process has been sentenced to three years of probation for felony eluding.
Wade Christopher Anderson, 33, was facing up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to vehicular eluding and drunken driving in a plea agreement with the 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Durango.
District Judge Suzanne Carlson also sentenced Anderson to 42 days in jail, but he was given credit for time served, which means he won’t have to serve any further time.
The chase began about 6:55 p.m. Aug. 11 near Santa Rita Park on South Camino del Rio and ended about 7 miles south of Durango on La Posta Road (County Road 213).
The chase reached at least 75 mph.
Anderson turned onto a dead-end dirt road, turned around and hit the front passenger side of a sheriff’s vehicle that was pursuing him.
The white Dodge Dakota was later found crashed at the end of another oil service road, where Anderson was arrested.
Anderson had prior felony convictions, including in 2009 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; forgery; arson; receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle; and fraudulent signing of a credit card, sales slip or agreement.
