Soft spoken, polite and introspective, Montezuma-Cortez High School junior Taylor Wilson’s even-keel mannerism makes plays well on and off the athletic field.

A two-sport athlete who participates in cross-country and basketball, Wilson has come into his own in this, his third year of high school.

On the cross-country course, Wilson showcased improvement this, posting several best times leading up to a 76th-place finish at the 4A Region 6 Cross Country Championship.

“Cross-country went well, it was all about getting better,” said Wilson. “I think I really progressed.”

Also a dedicated basketball player, Wilson has looked much improved on the hardwood, bringing stability and scoring to his team.

“I’m hoping to go far, I want to get a good record in our league,” said Wilson, fresh off a 23-point game against Green River on Dec. 14. “I want to limit my turnovers in games.”

In addition to his on-field success, Wilson produces quality academic work and lists math as his favorite subject.

“Math is my best subject,” said Wilson. I think it would be cool to go to school to be an architect.”

Certainly a worthy aspiration for one of M-CHS’s rising stars, who will undoubtedly continue to thrill fans throughout the 2013-14 basketball season and beyond.
