One man can defeat Trump: Bloomberg

The Democratic Party choice is clear, singular and imperative: Do we want a candidate who can beat Trump, or do we want to waste our time, nomination and American democracy quibbling over candidates who have no hope of winning the general election, and, if they do, less hope of enacting their plans?

Assuming we want to beat Trump, there is one obvious choice: Mike Bloomberg – the candidate with sufficient funds to go the distance, executive experience in government and business, technical and media savvy to deal with this century’s issues as well as excellent judgment and a toughness that will more than go toe-to-toe with Trump.

This is to say nothing about his excellent record on gun control and education.

In my view, the rest is noise, which will quickly be forgotten if Trump gets four more years.

I am aware of the whining about Bloomberg trying to buy the nomination, and in a perfect world, I may be whining, too. But let’s get over it.

This is not a perfect world. It is an emergency – an existential emergency for our democracy and environment. If we have to swallow the “buy the nomination” issue to defeat Trump, it is well worth it. We simply can’t afford to gamble on this. We’ve got to win, and we’ve got the right candidate.

Let’s nominate Bloomberg.
