Hesperus Ski Area announced its plans to open for the season Friday.
Laura Haidet, a spokeswoman for the resort, said trails will open for skiers and tubers from 4 to 9 p.m. for night skiing. The lodge, snack bar, rental shop and ski school will also be open.
Haidet said Hesperus Ski Area, about 12 miles west of Durango, has a base of 22 inches. All 26 trails are expected to be open Friday.
Daily operations from Dec. 22 to Jan. 5 will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m for the holidays.
Haidet said additional lights were installed this summer to enhance night skiing on the mountain.
Also new this year: The tubing hill was moved from the west wide of the property to the east side on Marmot Hill. The ski area will offer new, groomed tubing lanes and a new rental fleet upgraded from the 2019-20 season.
Haidet said regular lift hours are from 4 to 9 p.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays.
Officials say Hesperus Ski Area is scheduled to be open through March 15, conditions permitting.
Last weekend’s storm appears to have given ski resorts in Southwest Colorado a boost of snow.
Purgatory Resort reported Monday it received 7 inches of new snow in the past 24 hours. The resort said 100 of its 105 trails were open.
The big winner from the weekend’s snowstorm appears to be Wolf Creek Ski Area, which on Monday was reporting 45 inches of new snow in the previous 72 hours. The ski area, with a base elevation of 10,300 feet, has received 144 inches of snow this season.
