At a Mancos summer event, Ryan Brown, director of Opera Lafayette, and Andrew Saletta, Mancos music teacher, share a preview of the comic opera “The Blacksmith” coming to town in the spring.

Musical theater lovers are invited to join a steering committee to help plan the comic opera coming to Mancos this spring.

Originally a French opera from the 1700s, “The Blacksmith” is being updated to Mancos in the 1890s. It is being developed and performed by Washington, D.C.,-based Opera Lafayette.

Performers will be rehearsing in Mancos for the last few weeks of April 2020, before the shows scheduled for April 30, May 2, and May 3. Proceeds will benefit the Mancos Opera House and Mancos Creative District.

Committee members would be involved with a variety of tasks, including pre-event planning, volunteer coordination, musician liaison, and more.
