An "irate parent" making threats Monday morning caused the Dolores Schools to lock down for security reasons, said Lt. Ted Meador of the Montezuma County Sheriff's Office.

"We had a threat from an irate parent that he was going to come up and forcibly remove his child from school," Meador said. "He never made it to the campus and the child is safe."

The school was locked down at 10:39 a.m. and re-opened an hour later.

Numerous deputies were dispatched to the school, and an all-points bulletin was put out for a vehicle belonging to the suspect, Meador said.

"As a precautionary measure, we had the school lock down," he said.
