During an early-season practice, Dove Creek High School Bulldogs volleyball coach Scott Knuckles spoke about the importance of taking the season one game at a time.
“We can’t look past any opponent,” said Knuckles. “We want to improve every single game.”
That’s exactly what the team did and now, the Bulldogs’ record stands at a perfect 19-0 entering postseason play.
Finishing their regular season in Norwood on Friday, Oct. 18, the Bulldogs narrowly avoided their first loss, coming from behind to beat Norwood 17-25, 24-26, 25-13, 25-18, 15-11.
Pacing the Bulldogs in the competitive match, senior Shelbie Knuckles registered 23 kills and 24 digs.
Also keying the Bulldogs victory was senior Madison Young, who recorded a team high 26 assists. Young also delivered a crucial kill on the final point of the match to secure her team’s victory.
Shortly after squeaking past Norwood, the Bulldogs returned to action against Telluride High School and this time, the blue and gold clad girls had an easier time.
After playing well in a 25-20 first set victory, the Bulldogs continued to apply pressure, winning the next two sets, 25-19, 25-18, to secure the win.
With their season record now at 19-0, the Bulldogs will next play against Plateau Valley on Friday, Oct. 25, in the first round of the District Tournament.
