Mancos State Park and other area parks have free entrance today.

FARMINGTON — Looking to take advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday or escape the chaos of Black Friday sales?

Colorado and New Mexico state parks are offering free entry today.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials have dubbed today Fresh Air Friday and are urging residents “to take some time this Thanksgiving weekend to explore the outdoors and make new memories with the people you love.”

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham tweeted out an announcement today inviting people to “join us all around our beautiful state to #OptOutside.”

With 42 Colorado state parks and 35 New Mexico state parks, there are plenty of options to choose from. Near Cortez, there’s Navajo State Park, Mancos State Park and Lone Mesa State Park. In northern New Mexico, there’s Navajo Lake State Park, Heron Lake State Park and El Vado Lake State Park.

While entrance is free, residents are encouraged to check the weather forecast and road conditions before planning their adventure.
