Before their homecoming matchup against the Nucla Mustangs on Friday, Oct. 11, the Dove Creek Bulldogs defense had not surrendered a point in two straight games. Meanwhile, the offense had scored 121.
After a 62-0 victory over Nucla, the shutout streak stands at three, and the point total stands at 183.
Clearly fired up to play in front of a large home crowd, the Bulldogs came out on fire, scoring 36 points in the first quarter en route to a 49-0 halftime lead.
Things would not get any better for Nucla in the second half as the Bulldogs, using mostly second- and third-string players, scored two more touchdowns to move ahead 62-0.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Chance Randolph, who rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns on six carries. In total, the Bulldogs amassed 350 yards on the ground.
In all, six different Dove Creek players scored at least one touchdown.
On defense, the Bulldogs were led by Austin Carter, who recorded three sacks and four tackles.
With their season record now at 5-1, the Bulldogs will begin preparing for a Friday, Oct. 18, road matchup against Norwood (6-1), which will hold major playoff implications for both teams.
