I suggest everyone including the mayor go back and read this Journal article – “Mill levy ballot language solidified” (July 26) – so that you may see why 4A failed. People I know that didn’t vote for the measure said they would have if they would have known that no money would go to administrative salaries.
The board sought out input from the public and knew that was a major concern of the public. However, somehow they decided not to get lost in the details and that they shouldn’t have to jump through hoops to get people to vote for it who were against it.
I am pretty sure that’s what you are supposed to do in a campaign. You are supposed to sway people who oppose you.
The mayor should thank the school board for not jumping through hoops to get the 607 votes that the measure failed by.
This failure of 4A falls squarely on the shoulders of the school board’s unwillingness to put language in the ballot measure that would have told the public exactly what the money wasn’t for.
4A it’s for the kids?? 4A it’s for the teachers is a better message at 65 mph.
The community didn’t fail 4A, the board did. When you spend taxpayers’ money to find out what taxpayers want and then ignore the taxpayer in your final decision and then blame the taxpayer for the failure?! SMH.
