In the coming election, people of this county will have an opportunity to do something they can’t do very often. They can vote to give the hospital the ability to request state grant money without having to pay an increase in taxes, just make a mark on the ballot. The issue is Referendum 5D MCHD. It gives the Monterzuma County Hospital District the freedom to apply for state grants available to rural hospitals.
This is a win-win situation. The hospital will be able to keep up the infrastructure, replace failing equipment, and maybe provide a warm place for the ambulances in the winter so the vital liquids they carry won’t freeze up.
