I’ve had enough of these smartphones

What do distracted living (because it’s so much worse than just driving), fake news and squirrels have in common? Well, I digress.

In the 1960s, it was said that we were ruled by television, and I’m sure that if your attention span lets you past the next few words, you will acknowledge that we are now controlled by a small hand-held device.

Our behaviors, habits, expectations, daydreams and even our success metrics all live and die (especially when people will leave a venue if they can’t charge it) with a device. A device.

I travel this region extensively, and what I see at minimum is concerning. People consumed by phones and the content on them. Consumed to the extent that they don’t need to be using the phone to be distracted. Individual attention spans have been degraded to a point that the brain has become conditioned to seek out distraction because that’s what’s normal.

If elected president, I vow to ban smartphones! (squirrel).

We are losing societal foundations. Why? Because of our thumbs. We have created such great technological advancements that reality is now an internal vortex. People walk around with their heads down. They can’t make eye contact at stores. They can’t say “Hi!” in public places. To communicate with people outside our bubble is impossible, unless we are on social media, and then it’s, Look at my life, it’s amazing!
