Town Administrator Phillips reaches out to residents

Town Administrator Andrea Phillips wants citizens to be aware of aid for nonprofit groups, an upcoming town-wide cleanup and vacancies on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Phillips advised that town trustees have appropriated funding to support nonprofit community organizations. Priorities are given to organizations that address a unique need and serve a broad spectrum of the community.

"The town is committed to preserving and enriching the health, education, welfare and fitness of the community," she said.

Interested applicants may visit www.mancoscolorado.com for eligibility criteria and an application, which is due Sept. 16 by 5 p.m.

The two-day town-wide cleanup effort is slated for next weekend, Sept. 20 and 21. Phillips said residents are invited to drop off unwanted household items free of charge at the town's public works shop at 300 S. Monte between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

"Let's work together to beautify and clean up the town," Phillips said.

Certain items, including hazardous waste, tires, e-waste, refrigerators and freezers, will not be accepted, she said.

Yard waste, however, including tree limbs, plant materials and other organic matter, are also accepted free on the third Saturday of every month at the town's drop off site on Road 39 north. Yard waste is accepted from 9 a.m. to noon, she said.

Phillips also said that Town Hall is currently seeking volunteers to help lead the town's future development initiatives.

"The Planning and Zoning Commission has two vacancies for regular appointed members and vacancies for two alternate members," Phillips said.

Those interested in serving on the commission must be Mancos residents, she said.

Letters of interest are being accepted at Town Hall.
