Come out for our trails (and a burger)

As most everyone knows, there are amazing outdoor recreational opportunities that exist out our back doors, for hunting, fishing, and thousands of acres of public lands that include hundreds of miles of trails for multi-use.

Montezuma County residents are fortunate.

Recently, the Mancos Trails Group (www.mancostrails.org) has come to my attention. It’s a group whose sole purpose is “to promote trail stewardship and etiquette for all trail users in the Mancos Valley.”

The group is active and growing. Although their emphasis is on non-motorized trail use, I’m truly impressed with their willingness to engage with all single-track users, including motorized trail riders, to improve everyone’s outdoor recreational experience.

If you’re reading this and use local single-track trails, and if you’re a motorcycle trail rider, horse rider, hiker, biker or cross-country skier, I’d like to challenge you to attend the group’s next workday at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Mancos State Park. This is your opportunity to give back to the trails we love.

Oh yeah, the group provides burgers and refreshments at the end of the workday. Perfect!
