The city of Durango landed a small role in “Between Two Ferns: The Movie,” a feature-length film based on a web series of the same name.
Durango is identified as one of several stops on a cross-country road trip made by Zach Galifianakis, the star of the movie, and his crew. Galifianakis plays the host of a public access television station who interviews celebrities by asking them insulting and off-color questions.
In the Durango scene, Galifianakis interviews Tessa Thompson, an American actress, singer and songwriter.
The scene was shot at what appears to be an RV park with a pool and a red building that says “Registration.” It’s unknown if any of the film was actually shot in the Durango area. Someone at United Campgrounds in the Animas Valley, which has a red building and a pool, said it wasn’t her campground and she didn’t recognize it as being any of the other campgrounds in the area.
“What are you doing out here in the middle of nowhere anyway?” Galifianakis asks Thompson.
“I’m researching for a film that I’m doing next,” Thompson says.
“What kind of research?” Galifianakis asks.
“I’m just learning how to be a boring person,” Thompson replies.
“In the middle of nowhere,” “learning how to be a boring person.” Not Durango’s finest moment in the spotlight. But what can you expect when you’re between two ferns.
The film is available for streaming on Netflix.
